Merry Christmas everyone!
I hope you all had a lovely day and received lots of lovely gifts, spent time with your loved ones and had plenty of yummy food and drink. I know I did! I was still recovering from a cold on Christmas day so I didn’t really have much appetite but I did give it a good go! I got some amazing presents this year and honestly feel truly blessed that I have a lovely family to spend Christmas day with. I didn’t take any pictures on Christmas day as I wasn’t feeling great so I decided to show you all a sample of the gifts I received this year instead.
Sam got me some amazing Bobbi Brown products that I have been lusting over for ages. I also got some samples to try – the detox mask, hydrating face tonic and clear lip gloss. I’ve had my eye on the Extra line for a while and was so happy when I opened the box and saw all of these beauties. Skin care is one of my absolute priorities now that I’ve hit my 30s and these will certainly help me take good care of mine. I’ve already tried a few of the products pictured above and I’m really happy with them. My skin feels hydrated and silky soft which is exactly what I wanted to achieve. I discovered Bobbi Brown make up a few years ago and I tried the hydrating face cream from the skincare range about two years ago and I loved it, but £40 was a lot of money for me to spend on one product so I never replaced it. I think I have to re-consider it now I’m a little older and have the means to spend more money on little luxuries.
Anyway, Bobbi Brown have added quite a few products over the last couple of years including face masks, the extra line and even in the last couple of days Remedies have been added to the skincare range. I’m a little excited about those! I’ve also tested the detox face mask today and I’ll post the results in another post soon.
Edit: Instant Detox Mask Review post here
Sam also got me a lipstick that I have been lusting after for a long time! The one and only Diva by MAC. I have been wanting this colour for ages! It is the most gorgeous shade of bordeaux red. Anything that reminds me of a French red wine makes me happy. Its one of my favourite colours too especially for this time of year. I just love the deep, red tones and the creamy texture. Its matte too, which I love. I’m not massive on gloss and I think deep tones like this look amazing in a matte finish.
It is the most gorgeous shade of bordeaux red.
I couldn’t resist wearing it on Christmas Day. I didn’t take any pictures so I’ll have to do another post soon. The only downside to such a dark colour as this is that it really needs a lip liner. I didn’t have one and I really struggled to get a neat application with it. Its also quite smudgy till you blot it and it dries a little. Anyway, I’m hoping a lip liner will fix those little niggles for me.
I think my theme for presents this year was definitely beauty related! I got the Chloe Morello Beauty Haul by Ciaté London, from my brother. It comes with a make up bag, a liquid lipstick, mascara and this amazing selection of eye shadows. I can’t wait to try them out, I think I might have to have a little play tomorrow. I think fierce and flirt might be my favourite shades, hopefully they will look good on my hazel coloured eyes. I love that there is a mixture of shades as well as matte and glittery colours. I think this palette will create a variety of looks and is a great addition to my collection. (Note to self – clean make up brushes!)
Continuing the beauty theme with another one of my favourite brands is this box of Liz Earle loveliness. Inside was a orange blossom botanical body wash, botanical shine shampoo and conditioner. I haven’t tried their hair care or body wash products before so I’m again, quite excited about using these.
I lit the candle earlier today and have to say, the eucalyptus and rosemary scent smells divine. I love putting candles on in the evenings. The scents relax me and make my space feel cosy. I love the yellowish glow from candle light too. Sam and I generally use scented tea lights and large unscented pillar candles so its nice to have a special scented one to light and enhance the atmosphere.
For me, no Christmas is complete without a new bottle of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. If I don’t receive one as a present from a loved one then I usually buy myself one in the new year. I love this perfume, the scent is gorgeous, light and fresh but sensual and slightly erotic at the same time. I couldn’t resist putting it on today even though I wasn’t intending to leave the flat. This is my signature scent, the one that I always reach for and miss when it runs out. Honestly, I just feel complete when I wear it. I love this fragrance. This is the eau de toilette version so its great for carrying around in a handbag and topping up a little during the day.
I prefer scent to be personal and light. It should gently catch someones attention when they are in close proximity to you. It should definitely not be like a cloud surrounding someone. To achieve this effect, I never spray my clothes, I always spray the pulse points – the sides of my neck and a little on my wrists. For me, thats more than enough. Wow, I didn’t realise I had such intense opinions on scent. Maybe I should write a post about that! 😉
I have to say, I haven’t blogged in ages and writing this post and coming up with ideas for possible future posts is making me happy. My laptop broke earlier in the month and I’ve felt really weird without it. Sure, I have an iPad and an iPhone so I wasn’t ever disconnected from the digital world but blogging isn’t something I do on either of those devices. For me, its sat on my laptop where I can browse Pinterest at the same time and take mental notes on things. Not being able to blog or review my photographs was just, well, weird. I have only been blogging for just over a year and I didn’t really realise how much its become part of me. Its a hobby I really missed.
Anyway, back to the point of this post which is what I received for Christmas.
I also got a lovely grey cable knit cardigan, some celtic knot earrings and some yankee candles. Sam and I also got some joint gifts – a lovely dipping set by hotel chocolat, a blue tooth speaker and some more candles. You can never go wrong with scented candles! I love all my gifts and I feel blessed to have such lovely family. I still have a few friends I haven’t seen yet so I still have a few Christmas gifts to give and a few surprises to receive. I think its always nice to have something to look forward to.
What did you get for Christmas?
