I have to say, I am so proud of this photograph capturing an aeroplane flying over the moon. I took this photo completely handheld and its not edited in any way, shape or form. This is straight out of the camera. I swear. I even have two witnesses! It was one of those amazing moments that I’ll always remember. I was in South France, sat next to my niece, it was a warm, balmy evening. I had a glass of red wine and we were all admiring the night sky. The moon was nearly full, there were only a few clouds, the stars were twinkling, we were all just blissfully content. I had the camera aimed at the moon and had already taken a few pictures. I wasn’t expecting a plane to cross my view finder but I’m glad it did. I snapped away and this was the result. I’m really happy with how it came out.
My camera is a Canon Powershot SX50 HS. It’s a bridge camera, with a 50x optical zoom lens and the ability to shoot RAW. I was quite lucky to have a digital camera as a kid, not my own, it was a “family” one, but I took every opportunity to use it. I got my first camera to myself at around 15 years old. Anyway, after completely mastering my compact, I wanted my next camera to help me transition to something more professional, so a bridge camera was a natural choice. Its easy enough to shoot on auto and also easy enough to navigate when you take the jump to manual shooting.
Now, just so I’m not mis-leading you, none of these pictures were taken in manual mode. These were all taken using the automatic settings. Just shows that with a good eye, a steady hand and patience you can get some amazing images. The zoom on this lens is just amazing. Everything about this camera has helped me gain confidence in photography, especially in terms of improving my skill.
Let me know what you think 🙂
